Soul Harbor Therapy Horse visit was a hit!  Change for Change tomorrow to support this wonderful organization.

Room 8 Update

Tomorrow, Soul Harbor Horses will make classroom visits to students at St. Theresa School.  The Friday, January 18th "change for change" day benefits these therapy horses.  Please consider sending a $1 to school on Friday to support this worthwhile organization and enjoy a "dress down day."
Sunday, January 27, 2019 begins Catholic Schools Week.  If you plan to attend 11:30 mass that day and would like your child to represent our class, send a note to school by Friday giving your permission.  We will have a random drawing to select the student representative for Room 8 on Friday.
Habitat projects are due Wednesday, January 23, 2019.
Enjoy the rest of your week!

Room 8 Update

Happy New Year!
Room 8 is off to a great start in 2019!  Our reading story this week is a play about the legendary Pecos Bill.  Our plan is to put on a performance for the second graders, and the children are very excited to learn their assigned roles.  We may need some props, so check assignment notebooks regarding our requests.
This week, the children shared facts about their ancestors and are currently  researching traditional clothing from different countries.  Next week, we begin writing about our families.  We plan to have an informative bulletin board display for Catholic Schools Week titled, "All About Us."  Open House is Sunday, January 27, 2019 at 12:30pm following the 11:30am mass.  Watch for more details to come later this month.
Students should be working on the science habitat projects due January 23, 2019.  During class time, the children will write an informative narrative about one animal that lives in their habitat.  Although the students are gathering information during science and computer class, feel free to encourage Internet or library research at home as well.
A multiplication time-test schedule was sent home on Monday, January 7, 2019.  Please purchase or make multiplication fact drill cards.  Practice the facts daily for 5 - 10 minutes to build fluency and confidence.
Mid-term reading tests are scheduled for next week.  Comprehension strategies are showing healthy growth.  Continue to encourage reading for pleasure and support this progress.
Youngest and only students brought prayer cards home today.  The prayer challenge is sponsored by the parish to encourage family prayer time. Watch for more prayer cards sent home each month.
The next "change for change" day is Friday, January 18, 2019 in support of "Soul Harbor Ranch" therapy horses.  Students are encouraged to bring  "change" to support this worthwhile organization and enjoy a dress down today, too.
Cold weather has arrived!  Please remember to send hats, gloves/mittens, scarves, warm coats, etc. as the children go out for daily recess.
Thank you for sharing your precious children with me.  They make everyday special!
Best regards,
Mrs. Larson

Room 8 Update

Dear Parents,
The Advent Prayers service begins at 12:00pm in the church on Friday, December 21, 2018.  Students may wear "dress-up" clothes to school that day.  Please join us if your schedule allows.
Gym uniforms were sent home today.  Please wash and return to school after Christmas Break.  This is also a good time to replace red pens, glue sticks, glue bottles, rulers, pencils, etc.  Your child can tell you what he/she needs regarding school supplies.
Many families will get together and celebrate during these next few weeks.  On Friday, the children are bringing home a graphic organizer to help gather information about family history.  If possible, have your child sit with Grandma, Grandpa, or Great Aunt Mary at one of these gatherings to learn more about your family's personal story.  This information will be used with our upcoming "ancestors project" in January.
May you have a blessed Christmas and Happy New Year!

"The little painters" of Room 8 finished their masterpiece!  Thank you Ms. Zarob for helping us make something beautiful!

Room 8 Update

There is much excitement at St. Theresa School!  Christmas trees fill the halls,  each decorated with candles from every student telling how to "light the way" for the coming Savior.  Brainstorming ways to warm the heart of mean old Mr. Grinch helped get our classroom in the spirit of the Advent season.  Love, kindness, and generosity can be felt all around.
We currently work on our window painting masterpiece with the help of Ms. Judy Zarob.  Last week, the children met in small groups to sketch out a rough draft for their assigned window.  On Tuesday, Ms. Zarob, a former Art teacher, guided them in transferring initial outlines to the window.  This Friday, we begin painting the images on the glass.  The children can't wait to see the finished product of this co-operative group activity!
If your schedule allows, please join us Friday, December 21, 2018 at 12:00 for the Advent Prayer Service.  There's no better way to experience the true meaning of Christmas than through the eyes of a child!

How to Make a Grinch Smile???  Stop by our classroom and read what the children think warms the heart of a Grinch!
The children participated in the December 4 school liturgy as gift bearers and readers.  These smiling faces reflect the joy on their hearts!

Room 8 Update

We've had a very busy week at school!  The unexpected snow-day offered opportunities to enjoy winter wonders, however, the children had to work hard to keep pace with the curriculum this week at school. They rose to the occasion as true Christian Scholars.
Second trimester is now in full swing.  Please continue to encourage and support accurate legible homework. Expectations regarding written work this trimester have shifted.  Third/fourth grade complete sentences not fragments should be part of daily written expressive language.  We talk regularly about being prepared for the next chapter in their education.  It's hard to believe, but fourth grade is looming!
If your schedule allows, please join us at 8:00am Mass on Tuesday, December 4, 2018.  Our class is responsible for the liturgical readings and petitions.  The children are excited to participate in this special way and look forward to next week.
Important dates:
  1. Monday, December 3 -  the children will receive the sacrament of Reconciliation.
  2. December 3 - 7 - Student Council mitten tree collection and  Christmas basket collection.  Third grade is donating jam and jelly for the food baskets.
  3. Thursday, December 13 - school Christmas program at 6:00pm in the Dolan Center.  Watch for more details to come.
  4. Friday, December 14 - book reports due
Flu and cold season has arrived! Please send in a container of hand wipes for us to use in the classroom.  This should help minimize the spread of germs.
Blessings to you as we enter the Advent season.
