| Learning Resource Center (LRC)|
The STS Learning Resource Center is open daily to all students in grades PK-8th. The LRC houses a wide variety of learning material including, books, computers, printers, educational DVD's and other media. The LRC Director assists students and teachers with various areas of the curriculum. Adult volunteers also assists the LRC Director during regularly scheduled classes.
Preschool & Kindergarten visit weekly for storytime. Themes change regularly depending on seasons, holidays and classroom topics. Children are encouraged to participate in various storytime activities including but not limited to: story comprehension, puppets, books on CD's and DVD's.
1st - 4th grade visit weekly for various library and media activities. Children are encouraged to choose age appropriate books and learn the importance of choosing a "Just Right Book." Children learn how to navigate through the library system and locate books independently using the on-line card catalog. An emphasis is placed on introducing different genres (realistic fiction, mystery, adventure, fantasy, science fiction, folktale/fairy tales, etc.) and researching various popular children authors.
5th grade visit weekly to check-out books and for media research to assist with classroom curriculum. An emphasis is placed on Non-Fiction and Biographies. The Dewey Decimal Classification system is revisited to locate books independently.
6th - 8th grade visit individually or for group studies. The LRC is available for Study Hall and afterschool homework groups. Passes are available to visit on request.
